A mid-1800’s architectural wonder helped make Chicago the city it is today.  The 96-mile Illinois & Michigan Canal (I&M Canal) connected the Great Lakes in Bridgeport, Chicago to the Illinois River at LaSalle-Peru, and amazingly unique towns sprung up that maintain their authentic charm to this date.

The Streatorland Historical Society and Museum was founded by local people who wanted to preserve the rich history of Streator, Illinois for generations to come. The museum displays the many local artifacts that have generously been donated over the years. Some of the exhibits include artifacts from the local coal mines, glass factories, railroad, Clyde Tombaugh, and much more local history.
